Describe relevant aspects of your School & Community that influence and/or impact teaching & learning. (Examples: curriculum, reform models, school focus, community partnerships, community support level)
Classroom Demographics: My classroom includes a variety of 25 students, including 11 males and 14 females. These students includue 4 ELL (1 non- English speaker), 3 special education students (2 academic based and 1 behavior based), and 5 students with ADD. Parents tend to support and value their child's education, although some are more supportive than others. The PTSA is very active and organizes many fundraisers and events. The SES in this Spokane area tends to be mostly people of the middle class. The free and reduced lunch percentage is much larger than many other Washington schools, but it makes some of the school bonds hard to pass with a percentage of the parents putting other priorities in front of the child's education. The students in my classroom have great opportunities to get involved with the technology and use the tools that they are given to expand their knowledge. The classroom includes an Activboard, Activotes, an Activwand, one document camera, 16 net books, and 5 desktop computers.  Most of the classrooms in the school include many similar technological devices as provided in my classroom. The district and schools have found these devises really helpful and useful tools to better educate the students and reach their different learning styles. More and more technology is being offered and used around the classrooms in Spokane.

School Demographics: Our school, Ferris High School, is located in Spokane, Washington. Spokane is the second largest city in Washington. It is a beautiful city with a well established town including both older and newer parts of town.  All of the schools in the district are in the rather large town of Spokane. The town has about 463,000 residents and the population of Ferris High School is about 1,600 students. With the free and reduced lunch rate at 36%, which is high for Washington state. This proves the SES to be mixed in this area because the funds are there as well. There are many different kinds of people all around the greater Spokane area. The teachers here have an average of 13.7 years of experience, creating a great learning environment. Since Spokane is such a large city, there is a bit more diversity from the Caucasian norm, although about 80% of students are still white.

Community Demographics: Our school and community is very supportive of technology as an effective teaching method. Money is raised for helpful technology and teachers are trained in how it works. In my classroom, and most classrooms in the school, we have an Activboard, Activotes, Activwand, document camera, 16 netbooks and 5 desktop computers. We have found these to be highly effective tools for the student's learning. The community passes levies to raise money for newer technology in the schools.
